HSUS LAUNCHES ANTI-HUNTING CAUCUS |
2010-01-29 WASHINGTON D.C. - The Humane Society of the United States recently announced the formation of Caucus in the California legislature called the "Animal Protection Caucus" dedicated to the anti-hunting animal rights agenda. The new caucus, according to the U.S. Humane Society press release(HERE), is "modeled after the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus,co-chaired by U.S. Reps. Jim Moran, D-Va., and Elton Gallegly,R-Calif., and intends to sponsor nonpartisan forums and briefings, track the progress of relevant legislation, streamline communication among offices with regard to legislation, provide members with dependable information on animal welfare issues, and attempt to build broad coalitions in support of common-sense animal welfare laws." "As we have consistently beat back the efforts of the "antis" in Washington with the collective effort of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and its over 280 members of Congress representing almost all fifty states, including California, it is obvious that state legislatures are now the focus of the anti-hunting and fishing advocates, and this California launch is one of their first and most aggressive attempts," said CSF President Jeff Crane. The California Caucus is to be co-chaired by Sen. Dean Florez,D-Shafter, Sen. Tony Strickland, R-Thousand Oaks, and Assembly members Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, and Pedro Nava, D-Santa Barbara and will be officially launched in February at the state capitol with HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle. "Although it may be unfathomable, hunters and other conservationists have just been served serious notice that California will now face even greater challenges to our outdoor traditions," said California Outdoor Heritage Alliance President, Bill Gaines. The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA), the California Legislative Outdoor Sporting Caucus, with assistance from the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) members and staff, are leading the charge to block the anti-hunting and fishing agenda in California and throughout the other 38 states that make up the NASC.
